Welcome back to another Mindshare Monthly, where we ask our coworking community a question and then share the answers! In July we asked our members for their favourite podcast recommendations and let us tell you, they delivered! We got to hear about so many interesting podcasts, from comedy to wellness, to business advice and beyond. Each podcast recommendation we received taught us something new about the variety of shows that are out there. In this article, we’ve put together a list of just some of our favourites. This TED original podcast hosted by organizational psychologist Adam Grant, looks at the role of work in our lives and what we can do to enjoy it more. The latest season of this show dives into topics that can help all of us. 2. Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus
You’ll remember her from the comedies Veep, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and of course Seinfeld. Julia Louis-Dreyfus entered the podcasting field last year, and has already been awarded 2023 Podcast of the Year by Apple and Podcast of the Year at the 2024 Webby Awards. In this sensational interview series, she talks to women older (and wiser!) than her about their experiences. 3. Ten Percent Happier
Dan Harris is a journalist whose life changed after he had a panic attack on national television. The experience led him on a journey of healing and self-discovery that introduced him to meditation. Flash forward two decades, and now he has multiple books, a podcast, and a host of other resources aimed at helping other people learn to meditate. In this podcast, Harris talks about meditation with scientists, instructors, and even a few celebrities. If you’ve ever been curious about mediation, this is a great place to start. This show, started by senior editors of howstuffworks.com, has been running since 2008 and its hosts have toured the globe, bringing education with a sense of humour to fans around the world. Still going stronger than ever with over 2000 episodes, they’ve tackled an incredible range of topics, from hang gliding, to dietary supplements, to hard-hitting cultural and historical topics. 5. The Diary of a CEO
Hosted by Steven Bartlett, co-founder and former CEO of Social Chain, this podcast shines a light on a wide variety of perspectives and success stories from across a swath of different industries. From doctors to dating experts to former CIA staff, the host sits down with all sorts of experts to “discover untold truths, unlearned lessons and important insights”. Hosted by Canadian broadcaster and advertiser Terry O’Reilly, Under the Influence takes an in-depth look at ads, the advertising industry, and the impact of advertising on culture and life. Hosted by award-winning journalist, entrepreneur, and Workhaus member, Takara Small, Death in Crypto Land tells the story of Gerald Cotten, CEO of QuadrigaCX, which, at the time of Cotten’s death, was Canada’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. Harvard Business Review has a big collection of awesome podcasts, including Dear HBR, which, in its 76 episode run, tackled topics including navigating career transitions, preparing for performance reviews, and what it takes to be a manager. This Pulitzer Prize winning show got its start on public radio in 1995. Today it still airs on over 500 stations in the United States, Canada, and Australia. It has also been available as a podcast since 2006 and now racks up over 2 million downloads each week. This American Life blends journalism, storytelling, interviews and more in its distinct and influential brand of journalistic non-fiction. Each week’s episode is centered around a different theme with episode topics ranging from a day in the life of a carnival worker, the makings of a true fiasco, and what it means to be Canadian.
