We’re sure you’re all ready to forget 2020. It was a challenging year for all of us. Whether you were impacted personally or professionally, it’s safe to say that it is a time that we’re happy to put behind us.

Now, we’ll let you in on a little secret. If you’re reading this, you made it! You fought, you persevered, you triumphed, and now you’re ready to take on 2021. It’s a new year, filled with endless potential for new opportunities and growth. It’s time to start hunkering down and start setting goals for what you want to achieve.

Speaking of goals, team members of the Haus would like to share some of theirs for 2021. Not that cliché “New Year, New Me” we tend to hear at the beginning of every year. More of a “This year, I’m going to…”

Adam Mawer, Director of Kitchener Waterloo
A.K.A. Mr. Wonderful

“My main goal is for 2021 is rather simple: to enjoy life. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and completing chemotherapy (yeah, on top of the pandemic), I want to work on appreciating the smaller things in life and not worrying about things that, in the end, don’t matter. Plus, my girlfriend and I would like to buy a condo or townhouse so that’s really exciting!”

Tori Morency, Director of Community

We always knew Tori was a renaissance woman of sorts. What we didn’t know is that she’s an avid writer in her spare time. Her goal for 2021 is to complete and publish her children’s book. There are no kids in the Haus, but we can’t wait to read it!

Carla Borromeo, Director of HR

Next, we have Carla who is following suit on the theme of books. Her love of reading has inspired the scholarly goal of finishing one new book every month! I’m sure we’ll learn quite a lot from her this year. She’s also embarking on a personal journey with a focus on becoming more self-aware.

Russell McCrae – Operations

Russell has two major goals for 2021. Always wanting to stay active, he plans on running his first marathon this year. The Haus is rooting for you Russ! He’s also striving to be as positive as possible, something we all should aim for.

Courtney Neil – Community Manager, Toronto

This year is an important one for Courtney.  As a Jamaican transplant, he’s kicking off the process to obtain permanent residency here in Canada. His second goal is to find happiness in all things. In his words; “In a world where happiness at times is somewhat lacking, my goal is to always be happy”.

Robin Linder – Community Manager, Kitchener Waterloo

Robin’s goal this year is to maximize the quality time spent with her family. If we learned anything from the previous year, it is how truly important and powerful being present is. She is also striving to see the bright side of things this year while focusing on her happiness and well-being.

Ethan Pelensky – Community Manager, Calgary

Ethan’s creativity has surprised the team once again. For quite some time he’s been writing and producing his own music! His goal for the new year is to complete his musical ensemble and release it to the world. We can’t wait to hear it Ethan!

Elaine Decleir – Community Manager, Kitchener Waterloo

Elaine is an adventurous soul. On brand with that, her goal this year is to learn something new. She’s looking to master a new skill or acquire new practical experience. We’ll wait to see what direction her ambition takes!

These are just a few of the goals from some of the Workhaus team. Maybe you have similar ones, or perhaps while reading this you were able to spark a few ideas of your own. Before achieving anything in life, you need to know and understand what it is that you want. For our team, happiness and fulfilling experiences seemed to be the common theme… And as the great Andrew Carnegie once said:

“If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy and inspires your hopes.”
