We hope you’ve been making the most of summer in Toronto! We can barely believe that August is here already, but that doesn’t mean the fun is over! There’s another month brimming with excitement on the way! The best part? With 10 Workhaus locations placed conveniently throughout downtown, you’re never far from the action. From some of the most iconic Toronto events to ample opportunities to get outside, there’s an adventure waiting around every corner. So, close your laptop, soak up the sunshine, and explore the best of what Toronto has to offer this month. Let’s dive in and make the most of your August in Toronto!

Summer Festivals & Events Around the City:

August sees two iconic Toronto summer events return to the city. Caribbean cultural festival Caribana was back with events across the city from August 1st-5th, and CNE will run from August 16th until September 2nd. The neighbourhood around our Spadina office will light up for the weekend of August 17th and 18th during Chinatown Festival. Toronto Korean Festival runs from Friday, August 23th until Sunday, August 25th at Mel Lastman Square, making it a great choice for members at our Sheppard Ave location. Finally, Toronto Outdoor Picture Show continues until August 25th.

Festivals at Nathan Phillips Square:

Nathan Phillips Square is a hub of culture programming all year long, including festivals, markets and more events happening over the summer. It’s located in the heart of downtown within easy walking distance of all of Workhaus’ downtown locations. This month we have a whole new list of events happening at the square! Koreatown Street Festival is August 2 to 4, Himalayan Festival is August 10th, and Canadian Latin Fest is August 11. The India Day Festival and Grand Parade is August 18, and Mabuhay Philippines Day Festival is August 24 to 25. Finally, Toronto Dragon Festival runs from August 31 to September 1.

Get Outdoors:

Last month we shared a hack to get to the Toronto Islands faster, told you where to find a list of pools and splash pads in the city, and hooked you up with some awesome opportunities to get involved in outdoor sports. This month, we have even more recommendations to help you make the most of the summer sun! If hiking appeals to you, we suggest trying the Beltline Trail. For a more leisurely walk, try the Waterfront Trail & Boardwalk in the east end, or the Water’s Edge Promenade & Boardwalk along the harbourfront. Depending on the day, you can also catch some events at the Harbourfront Centre. Some of Toronto’s most iconic parks like Riverdale Park, High Park, and Trinity Bellwoods are only a short TTC ride from any of our downtown locations. Some smaller but equally charming parks, like Queen’s Park, Grange Park, and St James Park are within walking distance.
